But this kind of belting (or even shouting or screaming) puts a lot of strain on your voice and lead to hoarseness or permanent voice damage. I sang professionally for years, in all kinds of genres and formats, often singing the WRONG way. By my late 20s, I had damaged my vocal cords and needed vocal surgery not once, but twice!
